THE CZAPSKI GARDEN

The Czapski Garden is situated at the rear of the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum. In this beautifully designed garden, visitors can admire rich flora and also 19-th century sculptures.

The Museum of Emeryk Hutten-Czapski is the largest and at the same time the oldest branch of the National Museum in Krakow. There is a permanent exhibition presenting the history of Polish coinage mint and medal making industry. Visitors can admire 2,500 of the most valuable and unique coins, medals and banknotes. In addition, the Museum provides visitors with rare old prints, maps and manuscripts. The exhibitions are located in the stylish Czapski Palace, built in 1884.

At the rear of this neoclassical building, visitors can admire the lapidarium and the unique garden, which has retained its 19th-century character.

In the garden we find rich flora (over 130-year-old oak, linden with beautiful crowns, pear, dogwood, hazel), but also 19th-century sculptures such as “Morpheus” (1889) by Teofila Certowicz.
In the Lapidarium, we can see the fragments of Krakow buildings (including a pinnacle from St. Mary’s Church from the 14th century).

In the back, there is the Józef Czapski Pavilion – a biographical museum devoted to the outstanding painter, writer and soldier.
